Three Heart Conditions Misdiagnosed as FND
A year ago, I was diagnosed twice, by two different neurologists, with FND. One of them did an MRI; the other ordered a blood test. No further testing was done. They sent me to a psychologist who specialized in FND.
Long story short, I finally saw a cardiologist this week. I am only 38 years old, so they did not want to refer me to one. But it turns out that I have three different heart problems that explain all my symptoms, and there is nothing functional about them.
Having three different heart problems is a complicated situation, but they are probably treatable, with at least some improvement expected. Without treatment, they would surely have become worse.
I know some people have FND, but if insufficient testing was done, if you felt dismissed, or if you still have doubts—especially if you have evidence, as I did with my heart-rate watch—please listen to your gut and follow your heart. My heart rate goes from 30 to 170 multiple times each day, even when I am bedbound, yet this was dismissed as “anxiety.”
Do not give up. Find better doctors who will listen. It is the least you deserve.
I want to thank the people who posted similar experiences in the past and encouraged me to keep seeking answers. It helped me not to give up. Thank you.
